Catching up is hard to do!

Ok, so I'm SUPER behind with posts. And because of that I may duplicate posts... but you know, that's how life goes! This cake was for a baby shower that my book club was going to host... except weather hit.. and yeah, it got cancelled.. however, the cake was ADORABLE!  The theme is Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places you'll go.   It's painted straight onto fondant, and free handed, so you will see mistakes here and there. 

 I absolutely love the lines on this baloon, I don't know why, but I do. 

And the baby! Oh So cute! The bag, love it all! And all together, it is just adorable!!

Life...

Gets away from you sometime! I've had lots and lots going on, so much in fact that I am super behind with my posts!  Even though it's after the fact, (for a lot of these projects)... I want to share my Valentine's Day pictures. There was a cute idea that kept coming up in my facebook feed, so I decided to expand upon it and offer it as a Valentine's day special. Cupcake Bouquets! The warmth and comfort of deliciously decadent cupcakes combined with the happy warm fuzzies of a bouquet! Too Perfect!!  It turned out VERY well!

Sew Cute: Part 2

Here is the other cake that I was blessed to work on. It came out so cute! I also saw pictures of the birthday boy after he had it, it was of course, even more adorable smeared all over those precious little hands. I have to say, 1st birthday cakes are my favorite. I genuinely love making the smash cakes and seeing pictures of them after the destruction

This cake was so much fun to make. My daughters loved watching it come to life. They had to check on the models every day to make sure they were drying well for "the baby".  My daughters are very interested in my work and enjoy helping when and where they can (IE decorating an extra cake with leftover icing so I don't just have to chuck it all).  They also LOVE when I do models. They're convinced that they're either real animals or toys to play with.

 The Lion is 100% edible. Every adorable inch of him.

The Zebra was supposed to be completely edible, however, it turned out his large (but adorable) head needed some extra support. 

They Turned Out PERFECT. 

 I love how it looks like the Zebra is just chowing down on the grass. 

They are seriously, so cute!

The cake itself is double layered with buttercream grass and fencing. 

I'll have another exciting cake this weekend, and February is looking bright as well!

Sew Cute!

This last week I was blessed with the opportunity to work on my modelling! (With fondant, that is!) I had two different cakes that I made adorable models for!  Since I tend to run off at the mouth (hands? Since I'm typing? I'm not sure.. anyways..) I'm only posting one right now. I will hopefully post the other one tomorrow or so. We have family coming in so that's a huge maybe.

This cake is a two layered cake with buttercream icing and fondant accents, and fondant models. The penguin is so stinking adorable, and completely edible. The 1 is mostly edible, however there is a popsicle stick inserted in the bottom of the middle to keep it standing on the cake.

Enough talk, here are the pics!

This top layer is the smash cake! The giant snowflake on the bottom layer is there as a guide for lifting the top layer and to keep the cake board from sticking to the icing. 

This penguin is so adorable. My daughters both wanted it to keep. I say that's a sign of a job well done. 

And here is the finished product! Snowflakes with flurry accents and sixlets and colored sugar to add just a bit of glitz and glam. So happy with how this turned out!

Whoops! It's New Years Eve!

Already, and I almost didn't get this post in!  Things have been so hectic lately! In a good way though! We just had my mother-in-law and sister-in-law out, and it was great. Then my Step-Dad surprised me, my mom, and my sisters by buying them tickets to come see me! I'm so excited! This was such an unexpected and generous gift! My sisters haven't been able to come out and see me since I left home, and now! They'll be here this week! Theeeen in a couple of weeks my father-in-law and my other Sister-in-Law will be out to see us. So much family!! Is there anything greater?

The reason I went on so long about all of that is, well, it's awesome... and this post is about the gift I made my father-in-law for Christmas! I know that no one gets to see us as often as they'd like, and I also know how proud we all are of my husband. So, for Christmas, since my husband had no idea what to do for a gift, I made my FIL a wallet out of my husband's first set of uniforms.  It was a little rough, I didn't have a pattern for it, and I think I'll tweak it a bit in the future... but here it is!!

This was the scary part, especially since I didn't have a pattern!

 But it worked out perfectly!

 There is a full length button pocket that runs across the outsite.

     So, that's it for 2013! I have several fun projects coming up in January and so much to look forward to! I hope that you all have a Happy New Year and a very happy 2014! 

A Quick Holiday Update!

While I am not taking any orders until after the new year, I have been very very busy lately! I'm taking this break in the day to show you what me and my girls have been into! (I only have this break because they are determined to wait for Santa, even though they've been told countless times that he only comes when they're asleep... Chloe really wants to pet a reindeer though.)

Normally when I have several projects I like to take a whole post for each, as everything I do is very precious to me. This time, however, I simply don't have the time, and so I'm consoling myself by remembering that they're all Christmas themed, and by remembering the true meaning of the season and the looks of unbridled joy on my girls faces. All to soon they will be older and will have lost that sense of wonder, so for now, I will cherish every moment that I am blessed to experience with them.

Now I know that's a little more long-winded than what I normally post, so I'll get to the first of the pictures, what we just finished doing outside! We were blessed to have a friend give us some reindeer food (I had fully intended to make it and had the pinterest pins all up and everything, time just got away from me.) So, before the girls were too tired, we went out and sprinkled it all around.

The girls also helped with the holiday baking! Almost everything was baked from scratch, with the exception of the Christmas tree sugar cookies... because how do you tell a preschooler no to "Santa's cookies!".  Also, they were a lot less messier for her to help with.

It's Important...

To eat your fruits and vegetables.. especially when they're as cute as these!!

I had a lot of fun making these, and the girls LOVED them.. as in tried to steal them and sneak them back to their supermarket and kitchen they have set up in their toy room. I can't blame them! This marshmallow fondant is as fun as it is tasty!

I also got to try a new recipe for these, they're carrot cake with a swiss buttercream. I was leery of it at first... so much butter... but it is delicious and super light and fluffy!  It doesn't pipe as smoothly as I would like, so I went with fondant lettering on the main cake... but they are going to be SO adorable when they're set up! I'm excited, and it's not even my party!

The cupcakes and the cake are all carrot cake, with swiss buttercream, and fondant. Very fitting as they are to celebrate a graduation with a degree in dietetics!
